The Transfiguration
In this icon, we can see Jesus, on Mount Thabor, who wraps the Profeths Elija and Moses in the splendor of His light. From transfigured Christ three rays branch off reaching the apostles, hit, astonished and amazed, dazed by joy and love.
The transfiguration has been defined as “the feast of iconographers” because of its peculiar importance: once, every iconographer began his “divine art” with this solemn scene.
This living and direct initiation taught mainly that the icon is painted not as much as with colors but also with the light of Mount Thabor. It is the mother of all icons, in the sense that every icon has to reflect itself in the same light that shone on Mount Thabor.
